105. Smith Commons Restaurant
We all have bad days. And on a particularly bad Monday for me, I decided I needed a bit of cheering up. I had been planning to visit Smith Commons on H Street for some time now and figured today was the day.
So with credit card in hand, and with plans to try as many things on the menu as I could, off to Smith Commons Restaurant I went.
Here’s how my evening played out.
Smith Commons Restaurant Review – H Street
As I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the bartender (It was early on Monday evening so the happy hour crowd wasn’t there yet). The first thing that struck me was the beautiful decor. You’ll find huge full windows, patio space, and a cool, rustic, yet modern look.
Props to whoever designed the spot.
The downstairs section was closed, so I spent the time sampling different things from the Happy Hour menu.
First off was the cheese and toast. I’m generally not a huge exotic cheese fan, but the different types of cheeses all worked wonderfully with the toasted raisin bread. An almost weird, but fun combination.
Next up was the $1 oysters. I heard good things about them on Yelp and I have to say they delivered!! The oysters were perfectly seasoned and just down right delicious. I slurped my way through two orders and was still tempted to get more.
Then I decided to try the beef skewers based on the bartender’s recommendation. I loved these as well. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked. And I totally enjoyed the beans that came as a side.
Okay, by then I was slowing down but thought, “What the Heck!” One more thing from the happy hour menu won’t kill me! After a careful back and forth with the bartender, I settled on the beef sliders. If you like mushrooms, you’ll be in love with these two pint sized explosions of flavor.
And this wrapped up my lovely evening. I savored everything over a few glasses of a lovely white wine that I’ll share the name with you when I update this post.
I want to give a big thanks to the bartender that served me, and gave me all those wonderful recommendations. Everyone was lovely, energetic, and fun.
I highly recommend this spot and I’ll be back for another happy hour.
