84. Summer Fun: Do something random to make you smile :-)
Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.

We’re almost half way through summer and you’re enjoying it so far.
Well, I really hope you are.
For some reason the summer of 2011 in Washington DC feels almost magical to me. Rooftop parties, awesome happy hours, and amazing people…DC feels alive!
But this post is about escaping from the polished plans of the city, taking in the outdoors, and doing things that will put a genuine smile on your face. Things like…
Dancing on the Washington Mall
Why not? There will be plenty of events on the Mall before the end of the summer. And if you don’t find one that requires you to dance, do it anyway. You might just put a smile on a stranger’s face in the process.
Go kayaking on the Shenandoah National Park
You don’t have to be expert. Shoot, it could be your first time ever. It’s calm enough there for you to just sit and paddle in a circle and laugh at yourself.
Watch the sun set on the Tidal Basin
This is one of DC’s loveliest sunset locations. The image of the sunlght dancing across the water framed by the Cherry Blossoms seems almost other worldly. Smile at a cute stranger. It might just lead to something : -)
Take a walk through Rock Creek Park
Get close to the stream so you can get your feet wet a little bit. I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with water in my shoes. It feels weird, but chances are I was doing something fun to get it there. Good times.
Feed an animal
Bonus points if it’s a squirrel. They’re like the most inquisitive animal. A meeting with a squirrel puts both of you a bit outside of your comfort zone, but if you run across an especially bold one you’ll have a few moments of laughter.
Take the little ones to a fountain to play
It’s amazing how something as simple as falling water could elicit such happiness in children. They’ll lose their mind and you can just sit there and share in the moment. Extra bonus points if you jump in too.
and if all else fails…
Take Your Cat for a Walk
You’ll smile. Strangers will smile. And your cat…well it depends on your cat. You might end up with scratches across your back, but who minds a little scar tissue when you’re out to have the most awesome summer day? : -)
So what random moments have put a smile on your face?
I’d love for you to share below.
Smiling as I write this,
