151. A Hero’s Christmas-A Concert at the Filmore
Guest Post By Angie Fuentes
Moving day for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan has lasted for just over a year now. As Operation New Dawn comes to an end many soldiers will be returning to their homes between now and late January, making it just in time for the holidays and the start of the New Year.
As happy as we all are to welcome our soldiers back home, it’s still a solemn time when one stops to think about the years of sacrifice it took for this historic moment to become a reality, and the effects this war will forever have on the hundreds of men and women who have diligently fought for the preservation of relative peace and security here at home.
That’s why I think it’s very fitting that we especially recognize and honor the Iraq and Afghanistan
veterans this Christmas by continuing to give our support.
One way to do that if you’re in the area is to be at the new (opened in September 2011) Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Maryland on December 16, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. for a benefit concert for The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. The supporting act is Llyod Dobler Effect. Featured will also be Paul Pfau and the Dimestore Band, Chris Collat Band, Cooked Crow, and Big Paper Airplanes.
The concert is opened to the general public and tickets can be purchased for $15 at at www.fillmoresilverspring.com.
For further information or questions you can call the venue at 301.960.9999 or visit their website. To learn more about The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America nonprofit organization and other ways to support our veterans, visit www.iava.org.
