67. Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal Georgetown
The recent spate of lovely weather reminded me to share this experience with you: The C&O Canal in Georgetown.
To be clear the canal actually goes for almost 200 miles, but the Georgetown section is especially fun.
Spend a few moments reflecting on the years of history that has shaped the C&O Canal. All the footsteps and bike wheels that have crisscrossed the trail in the years gone by and the men and women that have left their mark on this serene landscape.
The C&O Canal in Georgetown is a lovely area to walk or bike, or run, or just to pause for a few moments and reflect on life.
And if you prefer something a little more organized you can check out the C&O Canal Boat ride.
C&O Canal Boat Ride
The boat ride is held on a full replica of mule-drawn 19th-century boat. It’s staffed with folks in full costume, and the boat is drawn by mules as was popular 200 years ago.
The canal ride is a fun thing to do in nice weather. You’ll enjoy the funny stories and the relaxing pace as the boat meanders through the C&O Canal. Kids love this, but it’s cool enough for adults as well.
And best thing, the experience is only $5. Enjoy this historic ride through the Georgetown Locks.
Check to make sure the boat is running by calling the Georgetown Visitor center at 202-653-5190.
Have a blast at the C&O Canal in Georgetown!
